FAQ's: Your Questions Answered
Floatation therapy involves floating effortlessly in a dark space filled with warm saltwater, providing sensory deprivation for relaxation and healing.
Floatation therapy takes place in a specially designed tank that isolates you from external sensory input. The tank is filled with buoyant Epsom salt water that is heated to skin temperature. You effortlessly float on the surface, experiencing a sensation of weightlessness. The tank is soundproof and lightproof, creating a serene environment free from external distractions.
Floatation therapy offers numerous benefits, including stress reduction, pain relief, improved sleep, enhanced creativity, mental clarity, muscle recovery, elevated mood, and a heightened sense of well-being. It’s a holistic experience for both body and mind. Additionally, users report it helps in eliminating toxins from the body and increasing brain stimulation.
The frequency of floatation sessions varies from person to person. Some people benefit from weekly floats, while others find monthly sessions sufficient to maintain the positive effects. Regular floating can enhance the cumulative benefits over time. Our float packages are designed for people who want to float on a regular basis as they make it more affordable than paying for each individual session separately. Have a look at them here.
Inside the tank, you'll experience a feeling of weightlessness, similar to floating in space. The water is perfectly calibrated to your body temperature, making it hard to distinguish between the water, air, and your body. This absence of sensory input creates a unique sensation of floating in nothingness, promoting a deep sense of calm and relaxation. The water has some texture too it, if feels silky, this is due to the high salt content.
It's recommended to avoid caffeine or heavy meals before a session. Ideally you will come to the session without any makeup on. You will be asked to shower before entering the tank to remove oils, lotions, and other substances that may interfere with the water quality. Additionally, it's helpful to approach the session with an open mind and a willingness to relax.
No you don't. You control the lights within our tanks, so if you don't want to turn them off then you don't have to.
Not at all. Most floatation tanks are designed to provide a spacious and comfortable experience. We have 3 float rooms, and 2 of them don't have lids. We would recommend The Cabin or The Open Pod for your first float if you are feeling a little unsure. The Orbit is the only room that has a lid and you have full control over the lid, allowing you to keep it open, partially closed, or fully closed based on your comfort level. Inside The Orbit with the lid closed feels like a cosy cocoon and many people find the experience incredibly relaxing.
Typically, individuals don't wear anything when they float to maximize the sensory-deprived experience and minimize any distractions. However, you may wear a swimsuit if you prefer. If you do wear a swimsuit make sure you give it a good rinse out afterwards due to the high salt content of the water.
Floating is not advised during the first trimester or after 38 weeks of pregnancy. It is also not recommended too soon after giving birth, until you have fully healed. We always recommend consulting your healthcare provider before coming to float. Many pregnant women find floatation therapy beneficial for relieving pregnancy-related discomfort and stress. The uniform and gentle support of the water can offer comfort that cannot be found elsewhere, providing profound relief for areas such as the back and hips.
Our float sessions are an hour long. This duration allows for ample time to experience deep relaxation and its associated benefits. Please allow time to have a shower and wash your hair after the float hour.
*If you want to book a longer float you can book two sessions back to back. *
No it's not. You will have your 1 hour float, and then you have around 30 mins after the float to have a shower and wash your hair.
Yes absolutely! Floatation therapy takes place in shallow water, and you'll effortlessly float on the surface due to the high salt concentration. Swimming skills are not required to enjoy the experience.
For most people the experience of floating is very relaxing. So if you fall asleep, that's awesome! If you do drift off, it’s perfectly safe, and the water is so buoyant that it is very difficult to turn over.
You won’t be able to float if: You are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. You are in your 1st trimester of pregnancy. You have mobility issues that prevent you from getting in and out of the tank. You are under 18 years old. You are feeling generally unwell. Additionally, if within 3 weeks before your appointment you have: Dyed your hair with semi-permanent, permanent, or henna. Received any kind of fake tan or used bronzing moisturizers. Gotten a new tattoo or piercing.
Not at all, the water is only about 10 inches deep.
Epsom Salt is Magnesium Sulphate. It is found naturally in many spa waters. It is very different from sea salt or table salt which is mainly Sodium Chloride. Epsom Salt has been used for centuries to treat skin complaints. It is non toxic, it won't harm you if you swallow some (but it doesn't taste too good!). We use it for two main reasons. Firstly it increase its specific gravity to approximately 1.25–1.26. This high density allows you to float effortlessly on the surface of water in the tank. Secondly, it softens your skin and won't leave you wrinkly.
Yes, we provide float halos (head supports) for our customers in all of our float rooms.
